The Connecticut Independent Utility Workers is an independent labor union representing the approximately 228 Greater Hartford bargaining unit employees of Connecticut Natural Gas ([CNG], a division of UIL Holdings), a regulated public utility, and The Energy Network ([TEN], a division of Iberdrola USA), a non-regulated supplier of steam and chilled water to downtown Hartford.

The DPUC ruled on CIUW's motion requesting Party status by granting very limited Intervenor status, i.e. merely being added to the docket's service list.

Attorney Gagne has responded, on behalf of both the CIUW and the USW, with a renewed request for full Intervenor status.

CNG Admonished for Arrogance by DPUC Commissioners

At the June 25, 2009, Oral Arguement of the DPUC Draft Decision on the CNG Rate Increase Request, Chairman Donald W. Downes excoriated CNG management for threatening to reduce the workforce if their rate increase request was not granted. CNG's attorney responded. Commissioner Anthony J. Palermino further warned the Company that it has the power to not only reinstate any laid off employees but may actually add to their numbers if it feels the safety and reliability of service to ratepayers is threatened.
