In a deal termed "risky" by the Hartford Business Journal Online, UIL Holdings, the parent company of shoreline electric utility United Illuminating, agreed to acquire CNG, SCG, and Berkshire Gas for $1.3 billion. Will President and COO Anthony Vallillo have to take a cut in his $1,332,532 Total Compensation in order to finance the deal? It is doubtful that CEO James P. Torgerson will allow his $1,927,604 to be touched. Or was that $2.26 million? (nearly all paid by the Connecticut ratepayers according to AG Richard Blumenthal.)

The DPUC issued its long-awaited draft decision today. In contravention of its rate case admonition, it allows the Iberdrola-owned company to "throw its employees under the bus" in order to increase profits. There is, however, a price to be paid for this dispensation. The company will have to comply with thirty (30) orders, many of which require monthly reporting.

The entrance to the Connecticut DPUC In response to a motion from CNG to extend the due date for filing responses to interrogatories and reschedule the October 14, 2009 hearing, the DPUC has given the Company until 4 p.m. on  Tuesday, October 20, 2009 to produce  the detailed information requested. The hearing has been rescheduled to Friday, October 30, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. and the stay is also extended until then.

The Company's motion to reconsider the protective order was also granted. Apparently it is more offensive for non-union employees to learn their jobs are being eliminated than it is for Union employees.
